Genre: Progressive Rock

Release date: 1989

Description

Although keyboards dominated Rush's 1988 double live set A Show of Hands, it's a definite improvement over its somewhat flat predecessor, 1981 's Exit...Stage Left. The band's music isn't as hard rock-based as it previously was, evidenced by the more modern-sounding compositions selected for this third live album (the first Rush album to be produced completely by the band). The only tracks from the pre-1982 period to be featured are "Closer to the Heart," which is expanded to include a jamming section at the end, and the spooky "Witch Hunt," originally from 1981's Moving Pictures. The remainder of the album's track list is comprised of Rush's best compositions from 1982-1987, such as "Subdivisions," "Distant Early Warning," "Force Ten," "Time Stand Still," and "Red Sector A," as well as several tracks that have been forgotten over time ("Marathon," "Turn the Page," "Mission," etc.). Also featured for the first time on a live Rush album is a completely unaccompanied drum solo by Neil Peart -- the intricate "Rhythm Method." The inspired A Show of Hands is an excellent snapshot of Rush in concert during the mid- to late '80s.

Jethro Tull - Aqualung

Description

After veering sharply from the blues inluences of their debut, This Was, Jethro Tull's sound quickly coalesced around jazz-tinged English folk influences and the antics of frontman/flautist Ian Anderson. But it was guitarist Martin Barre's swaggering riff off the title track of the band's fourth album that would become Tull's indelibly clichéd trademark--and the band's entrée into a long reign as arena-rock perennials. But there's a lot more to Aqualung than the riffage of that cut and its cousins, "Cross-Eyed Mary" and "Locomotive Breath." In an era when pseudo-Christian spirituality was a de rigueur, if cheap, musical commodity (from the overblown operatics of Jesus Christ Superstar to one-hit pop wonders such as "Spirit in the Sky" and "Put Your Hand in the Hand"), Anderson and company openly challenged the value of organized religion with a thematic album savvy enough to layer its thought-provoking lyrics between heavy strata of FM-friendly guitar bedrock. A cliché, perhaps; a landmark, no doubt. And a record many maintain is still Tull's finest hour.

Description

Mutinysunshine album by Talkdemonic was released Jan 10, 2006 on the Lucky Madison label. "Coming from Portland label Lucky Madison, Talkdemonic's debut release, Mutiny Sunshine, highlighted the promise and originality which can be found in bedrooms, basements, and smaller, upstart labels. Mutinysunshine songs Largely a one man effort, Kevin O'Connor mixed together beats, loops, samples, guitar, viola, flute, synthesizer, and live drumming to create an immediately accessible album for fans of both rock and electronic music. Mutinysunshine album Though Talkdemonic may best be known for the drumming played over the tracks, the programming, beats, and instrumentation brought together a complete sound on Mutiny Sunshine, providing a consistency lacking on many first releases. From the cozy and forlorn title track to the grand optimism of "Andean Twilight," the album proved to be versatile and multifaceted, fitting many moods and environments. With a first-rate debut and an impressive live show, O'Connor has situated himself to be positioned in a flighty echelon of up-and-coming musicmakers

Description

Abandon this cd, because Deep Purple has. All the talent they once had is abandoned on this cd. Unfortunately it gets even more evident on their later releases, such as Rapture of the Deep. They are finished. Move on to something else. Like Jethro Tull. They continue to release quality music even these days. Unlike the afore mentioned

Description

Z "Lwem Szablastym" kierujemy się na inny kontynent, bo to NWOBHM (New Wave Of BRITISH Heavy Metal).
Nowa płyta Homo Twist wśród wielu małych plusów i minusów, razi najbardziej jedną rzeczą.

Description

Two CD 2008 release by Judas Priest. In the realm of Heavy Metal, there has never been a double disc concept album that has managed to balance a thought-provoking storyline with metallic thunder. Long in the works, Nostradamus takes epic storytelling to a whole new level, as it recounts the life of this mysterious, world-known 16th Century French prophet. Most bands of this high stature would be happy to play it safe. But not Judas Priest, who continue to take chances and break new ground. No other rock band could have pulled off such a grand statement, and Judas Priest have raised the bar once more with Nostradamus. 23 tracks.

Description

Review by William Ruhlmann (AMG)
Producer Audie Ashworth introduced some different instruments, notably vibes and what sound like horns (although none are credited), for a slightly altered sound on Troubadour. But J.J. Cale's albums are so steeped in his introspective style that they become interchangeable. If you like one of them, chances are you'll want to have them all. This one is notable for introducing "Cocaine," which Eric Clapton covered on his Slowhand album a year later.

Description

Although Queen would release another three albums with Freddie Mercury (including the posthumous Made in Heaven), A Kind of Magic would turn out to be the band's last ever album promoted with a concert tour, due to Mercury's diagnosis with AIDS the following year and his eventual death from AIDS in 1991. For the first time in their career, the band allowed filming of them while they were in the recording studio. The video for "One Vision" shows them in various stages of writing and recording the song.A Kind of Magic reached 1 in the UK, selling 100,000 copies in its first week, and remained in the UK charts for sixty-three weeks. The album spawned four hit singles; the album's title track "A Kind of Magic", "One Vision" and "Friends Will Be Friends".Also the sixth track on the album, "Who Wants to Live Forever", features an orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen, while the last track, "Princes of the Universe", is the theme song to Highlander. It is Queen's first album with a title track, and every album released thereafter also contained one. Critical reaction to the album was mixed, but it has, in recent years, been cited by music publications and fans as one of Queen's best records of the 1980s. The 1994 edition of the Guinness All Time Top 1000 Albums listed A Kind of Magic 171 in the all-time greatest rock and pop albums.my original CD has many of the bonus tracks tagged on the end of the disc, this version has decided to add them to the bonus disc and also add a heavier version of A kind of magic, again with the extras not really anything rare or special. This was Queens first album recorded and mixed digitally, and having the original and the new version now, there is an improvement in the frequency range and thank heavens not a massive increase in volume to ruin the quality. This is still worth investigating if there is a gap in your Queen collection.
